Our key people
Gavin St Pier
Non-Executive Director
Gavin has a 25-year executive career in financial services. Having qualified as a Chartered Accountant with KPMG, he subsequently also qualified as a Chartered Tax Adviser, Barrister and registered Trust and Estate Practitioner. He has been a partner of both KPMG and Deloitte and held senior positions with Dresdner Kleinwort Benson and Barclays Wealth.
Having co-led a management buyout team to acquire Deloitte’s trust and company administration business, Walbrook, he served as its Deputy Chief Executive before a successful trade exit was secured for the business. Following this, Gavin began a political career having been elected to Guernsey’s parliament, the States of Deliberation. Between 2012-16, he served as the island’s Treasury & Resources Minister; and from 2016-20, as the island’s Chief Minister. He continues to sit as a backbencher in the States of Deliberation.
Gavin’s non-executive roles have included a range of financial services businesses as well non-financial services business, such as Alderney Electricity and Aurigny, Guernsey’s airline. Not-for-profit roles have included serving as a trustee of The Brain Tumour Trust, Dignity in Dying and as worldwide Deputy Chair of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners.
Ian Morris
Non-Executive Director
Ian qualified as an actuary with Legal & General in the UK before joining the BWCI Group in 1990. He was made a partner in 1996 and specialised in providing actuarial and consultancy services to life insurance and general insurance companies in a range of territories including Guernsey, Jersey, Isle of Man, Malta, Gibraltar and the UK.
The BWCI Group remains the largest group of actuaries and consultants in the Channel Islands with around 125 staff and specialises in insurance, employee benefits and investment services.
Ian retired from BWCI in 2019 but continues to act as a nonexecutive director for insurance and reinsurance companies based in Guernsey and Jersey.
Richard Sharp
Non-Executive Director
Richard is a partner in in the Guernsey office of international law firm, Bedell Cristin, with a specialism in insurance structures. He heads Bedell Cristin’s ‘Insurance and Reinsurance’ practice, ranked in the top tier by the Legal 500 directory. His practice also covers all areas of offshore corporate and finance law, including regulation and compliance, funds, mergers and acquisitions, banking and real estate finance and general commercial matters. His career has also included time as an In-house counsel for the corporate finance department of WH Ireland PLC, a UK nominated adviser and broker.
Richard sits on other boards including captive insurers, Bedell Channel Islands Limited (TISE listing sponsor for Bedell Cristin group). He also holds a voluntary position as the chairman of a local charity.
Richard has over 20 years’ experience of offshore and UK corporate transactions. He was admitted to the Roll as an English Solicitor in 2002 and called to the Guernsey Bar as an Advocate in 2014.
Chris Kenning
Independent Director
Chris is responsible for Group strategy and helps our clients grow by developing new propositions and matching their business with relevant product partners.
He trained at Grant Thornton in Financial Services Audit and Transaction Support. He then worked in Corporate Finance at Strand Partners before starting the UK business for an international Financial Services Group specialising in Life, General and Affinity insurance schemes.
Chris is a visiting lecturer at Hull University Business School. He is also a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW).
Karen Barretto
Independent Director
Karen joined Stubben Edge in 2013 and became Deputy CEO in 2018 and is our expert on loyalty.
Karen has extensive experience in insurance and wealth management having spent several years at Canada Life where she was the Senior Tax Manager and Barclays where she was Head of UK Trusts.
Karen graduated with a Law Degree and went onto complete her Legal Practice Course. She is a Registered Trust and Estate Practitioner and was a member of the Product Tax Panel at the Association of British Insurers (ABI), she now sits on a committee within the Managing General Agents Association (MGAA).
Matt Oliver
Head of Insurance Products
As Head of Insurance Products, Matt is responsible for building product panels, and engaging and liaising with insurers, to source products that align to our development roadmap.
Prior to joining Stubben Edge, Matt spent nearly 12-years at GoCompare, in a variety of Commercial and Product roles, focusing on panel development and optimisation.
Matt spent the past two years working for personal lines brokers with a focus on building strategic partnerships and maximising commercial relationships with Price Comparison Websites.
